Don’t expect too much here, folks. I am no home-decorator-extraordinaire. But this weekend I did a bit of sprucing up with which I am fairly pleased.
When we moved into Casa-de-Blueberries, I didn’t have much. Two years prior I had moved from Virginia to Washington in 2 suitcases and a backpack. I had brought back more with me during subsequent trips back home, and had a few boxes shipped this way, but when you considered the amount of my husband’s stuff to my stuff , I was outnumbered.
I’ve been living in a boy’s apartment.
That and I have a penchant for more muted decor – browns and greens and such. I don’t know why. I love fresh, bright rooms, but it just doesn’t work here. Our apartment has brown carpeting, brown cabinets, brown everything, so I decided to just not fight the brown.
So without further ado, my weekend decorating projects:
After much effort involving figuring out dry wall anchors, my handsome husband
finally gracefully mounted this to the wall. I was of no help.
This shelf features:
An Irish cross given to us as a wedding present.
A handkerchief from my cousin’s grandmother (as in, her other grandmother. Not the one we share). At my cousin’s wedding, my aunt passed these out to the ladies because she had all these handkerchiefs after her mother had passed. Such a sweet memento.
A box my 8th grade history teacher gave me when she went on a trip to China.
Picture frame. The glass broke in storage, but who really needs glass? I might switch out that picture, it’s just one we had laying around
My ring “pillow” from our wedding. It’s a Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale book with a ribbon flower on top. So crafty of me.
The boxes I had back in college and are hung slightly crooked. Oops. Maybe I’ll fix that
one day never.
The birdcage is actually a clock my sister gave me when she was in China. Lots of Chinese decor, apparently.
The bowl is a wedding present from my sisters. Handcrafted in Floyd Co., VA!
And last, what does a teetotaler do with a wine rack?
I refuse to call myself a teetotaler, because verrrry occasionally I’ll have a glass of wine. As in, three or four times over Christmas break. It was awesome.
God decorated this weekend too! Look:
That’s my backyard. Awesome.
